2002 was practically a lull after 2001. After all, 2001 was the start of "Send in the Clones" and "House Trek", two Matthew movie icons. But, nonetheless, a re-examination of 2002 finds a surprisingly large number of videos. 2002 was the debut year of Troop 4 in my videos, even if "Troop 4: Uncensored" was yet to be created. Also, many effects tests were developed in '02, some of these are available only to link-members.

Videos done in 2002, roughly in order of completion: Titanic 2, MattBattle, Josh with Lightsaber, Holo-project, Crazy Driver/Midnight Excursion, "God and Country: The Video", "Five a Day". I obtained the following resources in 2002: AlamDV2, Multimedia Builder.

TITLE: "Titanic 2"

LENGTH: 15 seconds GENRE: Effects test

SUMMARY: The opening screen says, "Titanic: The ship that sank in 90 seconds." The video, however, is much less than 90 seconds long.

This video is a test of Bryce, with a 3d model I found on the internet and felt compelled to do something with. So, I did the blatantly obvious and recreated the sinking of the Titanic. This is easily the best 3d work I did in 2002. Maybe because it's almost the ONLY 3d I did in 2002.

TITLES: "MattBattle", "Josh with Lightsaber"

LENGTH: A few seconds each GENRE: Effects tests

SUMMARY: "MattBattle" is a clip of tiny copies of me shooting at each other and causing explosions on my desk.

"Josh with Lightsaber" is, uh, Josh Davis with a lightsaber, in a brief comic mashup of both "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones".

Both videos took advantage of my new software, AlamDV2, which I though was neat at the time. DOWNLOAD "MattBattle"

TITLE: "The holo-project"

LENGTH: 1 minute GENRE: Sci-Fi, effects

SUMMARY: I execute my evil plan - blowing up the moon, with a holographic missile-launching interface.

PROS: The absolute pinnacle of my AlamDV2 effects work. In terms of quality, the effects seem at least a year ahead of their time. Cool hologram, cool explosion (which I only found out later, originally was ripped from ArtBeats before being posted as an AlamDV2 community clip.)

CONS: It's old and pointless. What's up with the black missing frame and subliminal screensaver blip? Or, for that matter, my hair?

TITLE: "God And Country: The Video"

LENGTH: 4 minutes GENRE: Documentary, Comedy

SUMMARY: The closest I got to "epic" in 2002, this 4-minute video summarized the God and Country merit badge that Troop 4 (and some Youth Group guys) were involved in, with a smattering of humor and effects work here and there.

PROS: Temptations - Bradley Wallace as a substitute guy filling in for the devil. Josh in a gorilla suit looking for other gorillas in a church group. Mini-Josh. Music montage of the fall festival. The flashy intro. There really is some fun stuff mixed in.

CONS: It is also a documentary of a merit badge, so you also get an interview with Greg Davis, and clips from an improvised church service. These aren't bad things, but if you're looking for comedy or action, and don't KNOW these people, these parts will bore you.
