Matthew Hornbostel's drawings

Here we see two trees on the side of the ocean forming a very recognizable shape of Warner Sallman's Head of Christ. The title of the work is "Paredolia". The term "paredolia" refers to the human psychological tendency to search for patterns, and perhaps, meaning, in the world, regardless of whether any logical pattern exists. Maybe God wired us that way on purpose so we could find Him and so that we could learn, grow, and discover meaning and purpose in our lives, but atheists would say it's just a flawed evolutionary byproduct that makes us see faces in clouds and "intelligent design" or purpose in a natural world which really has none. The artwork comments on the human tendency to see evidence of God in nature.

Some more little drawings from years ago:

A town on the coast of New England.

A distorted kitchen.

A cold, minimalist winter scene.

An intriguing surreal world.

Two pictures of the Church of the Redeemer
